Art Deco

Geometric and angular shapes, exotic materials, and linear ornamentation characterize Art Deco’s design. The solid and sweeping declarations of shiny metallic, symmetrical patterns and geometric designs conjure up images of Great Gatsby-style design with a gleaming and glossy luster. And today’s modernized art Deco design is fun and contemporary for a distinctive appeal. The Art Deco style can bring all of the glitz and glam of the 1920s to a modern setting. Rich colors, strong geometry, and excellent detail work characterize Art Deco, short for Arts Décoratifs. The famous Art Deco style, with its vivid forms, peaked in popularity in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s and continues to convey elegance, luxury, and order wherever incorporated. This 1920s design throwback could be your best option if your taste extends to extravagant, jewel-like objects. In the 1920s, Art Deco interior design was marketed as the pinnacle of charisma: beautiful and sleek. This style was regarded as the ultimate definition of chic.

Art Deco materials are to be sleek and shiny for everyday home elegance. From silver to gold and stainless steel to chrome, this design has a lot of metallics. They add an exquisite and luxurious vibe to any area and are versatile enough to be utilized everywhere.

Critical Elements of Art Deco Interior Style:

  • Flat Roofs – Simple flat roofs without domes are most suitable for an Art Deco interior space.
  • Smooth Walls – Walls that are not textured are essential. Smooth stucco walls with rounded edges are common in Art Deco residences. Cream, off-white, or beige wallpapers with dark gray and black colored prints are prominent designs in an Art Deco living room.
  • Bold Exterior Decorations – Exterior decorations featuring zigzags, swans, flowers, and dawn themes were common on buildings in the Art Deco style.
  • Natural and Geometric Themes – The present-day art Deco interior design features styles containing branches, leaves, and even feathers. It also incorporates exaggerated animal elements like a Chinoiserie fish or a bird sculpture anywhere possible.
  • Sunbursts – A dramatic and exquisite addition to an Art Deco space. For instance, Art Deco-styled mirrors, preferably fan-shaped, would give an ideal uniformity and tie the whole décor together.
  • Experimentation with Interior Materials – Glass panels, chrome, neon material, and glass blocks go well with Art Deco. In art deco interior design, some materials stand out: alluring textures like that of a Shark or a Zebra skin, along with materials like Stainless Steel, Marble, Ebony, Mirrors, Chrome, Glass, Lacquer, Inlaid Wood, and Rare woods.
  • Wood Flooring – When considering this design, one would not think of wood as a regularly used material, yet rare and dark woods like ebony were frequently used for furniture and floors. Luxurious materials like marble, used commonly in enclosed spaces, are also a trademark of the Art Deco style.

If your taste leans towards the jewel-like colors and ornate designs of Art Deco elements and seem a little out of your comfort zone, remember, this era was centered around soaring adornment and ostentation, and the articles used in your home design were an excellent opportunity to show off your wealth. The art is finding the perfect blend of old-school and modern art deco to achieve that balance.
